Descendants 2 Movie Premieres on Disney Channel UK

The imaginative global smash hit story about the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains will continue in Descendants 2, a Disney Channel Original Movie premiering on Disney Channel and DisneyLife this October. The first Disney Descendants movie was a global success and is the no.1 Disney Channel Original Movie ever among girls in the UK.

Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie), Cameron Boyce (Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything, Jessie), Booboo Stewart (X-Men Days of Future Past), Sofia Carson (Adventures in Babysitting) and Mitchell Hope will reprise their starring roles as Mal, Carlos, Jay, Evie and King Ben, respectively. China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) will join the cast as Uma, the daughter of Ursula from The Little Mermaid. British superstar Thomas Doherty (The Lodge) joins the pirate crew as Harry, son of Captain Hook and Dylan Playfair (Some Assembly Required) joins the cast as Gil, son of Gaston. Emmy Award-winning director Kenny Ortega (Descendants, High School Musical movies, 2016’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show) will return as director, executive producer and choreographer.

Descendants 2 is a movie for the whole family and conveys a powerful message of self-discovery, being true to yourself, choosing good over evil. The story deepens in the music-driven sequel, as the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains – Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay try to find their place in idyllic Auradon. When the pressure to be royally perfect becomes too much for Mal, she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost where her archenemy Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town. Uma, still resentful over not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids, stirs her pirate gang including Captain Hook’s son Harry and Gaston’s son Gil, to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all.

On its US premiere, a staggering 21 million viewers tuned in to watch Descendants 2, besting the high bar set by the original movie broadcast in 2015. The premiere also broke multiple social media records including 185.5 million video views, 108.7 million impressions and 16.3 million engagements. Descendants 2 also ranked as the top cable TV telecast across all major youth demographics.

Music remains an integral part of the franchise. To date, two official music videos have been released; ‘Ways to be Wicked’ which racked up over 94 million Vevo views since it’s April debut, and more recently ‘What’s My Name’ – a pop/ R&B toe-tapper sung by China Anne McClain, which is currently just over 49 million.

Lauded writers Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon (The Starter Wife, Runaway Bride), who won a 2016 Writers Guild Award for Descendants, wrote Descendants 2 and will also executive-produce with Wendy Japhet (Descendants, An Education, The Italian Job). Descendants costume designer Kara Saun (Project Runway) and production designer Mark Hofeling (Teen Beach Movie, High School Musical“) are also signed on for the sequel. Tony Testa (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, This Is It) will join the creative team as choreographer with Ortega, and Shawn Williamson (Adventures in Babysitting) will join as producer.
